A new electric vehicle called the Nissan Leaf could feel like an electric vehicle at the airport.
But the Nissan Leafs power comes from hydrogen fuel cells, which produce electricity by splitting water molecules into hydrogen and oxygen.
The electric motor drives the electric motor, which drives the car.

— In an electric car and on a runway, the Leaf’s size, sleek styling and powerful motor are a rare sight.
But Nissan Motors, maker of the Leaf, said Monday it has created a new kind of electric car that can feel like a hybrid, an electric-only vehicle.
Nashville, the largest city in Tennessee, is home to a vast electric-car battery manufacturing plant that employs thousands.
Nishimoto Electric is making the electric Leaf for the airport, where it plans to build a large-scale charging station and a charging station for buses.
Nike, the United States’ largest sports footwear company, has also committed to electric cars, and other automakers are testing electric-powered models at some of their plants.
In the past, electric vehicles were more expensive than gas-powered vehicles because they relied on batteries.
But electric vehicles are also gaining popularity.
Nissan expects that the Leaf will sell about 1 million of them in 2019.
The company also plans to make the car available to consumers through an online portal in 2018.
Nico N. Costa, an analyst with Autonomous NEXT, a research firm, said he believes Nissan’s new electric car will be a success because of its design and fuel cell technology.
Costa also sees the Leaf as a way to create a safe, clean and efficient alternative to traditional gasoline cars.
He said the Leaf is more environmentally friendly than a gas- or diesel-powered vehicle because the electric motors use a lower percentage of energy.
Costas battery, which uses hydrogen fuel, has a capacity of about 4,000 kilowatt-hours (kWh) and produces about 1,600 kilowatts of electricity per year.
Nissan’s battery, by contrast, uses lithium-ion batteries, which are about 50 percent more energy dense.
Costan, an auto industry analyst at Deutsche Bank AG, said that if a car is sold as a plug-in hybrid, Nissan’s Leaf could be the most fuel-efficient car on the market.
Nissan is not saying exactly how much it will charge the Leaf at its charging station.
The company has not yet said how much charging it will provide.
The electric car’s first production run will begin this year.
The first car is expected to arrive in the first quarter of 2019.
Nagoya Electric Corp., which is part of the Nissan Motor Corporation, is the manufacturer of the lithium-sulfur battery that powers the Leaf.
Nissan said it plans in 2019 to sell 10,000 electric cars.
Nissan has invested more than $50 billion to develop and manufacture electric vehicles.
